MARCH 27, 2018 (ARCHIVED 4/13/2018 / Pete Gabriel)
The March 27th business meeting was called to order by President Bill. Bob made a motion to approve the minutes as read. It was seconded by Pete Gabriel and passed.
Bill Lowery reported we have $1418.27 in the General Fund, $1331.68 in Youth and Community and $4194 in Savings. He transferred $1000 out of savings to cover the wine taste expenses. He also advised that the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee returned our $100 fee in appreciation for o ur service. Margie made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. It was seconded by Lori and passed.
Janet reported that she is reviewing the wine list for which wines to order and she has begun purchasing door prizes. She asked that we turn in our ticket money as soon as we get it. She said if we want many desserts we can make them. We are also providing the shrimp.
Thirteen girls and three boys participated in the Oratorical contest. Bill Lowery advised that only two boys were there in the beginning so they combined the competition. A girl came in first place and a boy came in second. Since boys and girls were combined he gave placements one through six. They received Amazon gift cards and gift certificates.
The Zone competition will be on April 10th at New Middletown Zion Church.
There were twenty-two entries in the essay contest and we picked the top three. Since the essays don’t get submitted to the zone contest next year we will come up with our own subject. We will still follow the same rules and guidelines except the length will be shorter.
330 posters were submitted for Respect for Law; last year we only had 41. Bill L, Jo and Lynn narrowed it down to 10-12 posters per grade. We will pick the top three for each grade at our April meeting. Lori made a motion that the first place gets a $25 Amazon gift card and second and third place get a $10 Amazon gift card. We will provide dinner tickets for the winners and their parents. It was seconded by Janet and passed. They are invited to attend our May 22nd business meeting which will be held at Rachel’s.
The scholarship committee will meet on Tuesday, April 3rd , at 2:00 at the Sulenski’s. We are giving two $500 scholarships.
We need to submit our slate of officers for next year to Optimist International as soon as possible. Please consider taking an office. We all have busy lives but we can’t expect the same few people to do everything all the time. If we want the club to continue to be successful we all have to take a turn at the leadership role. Please let Bill know if you would like to hold an office, especially the presidency.
Pete advised that our website roster section is password protected. This also contains the newsletter. He will give us the password at our dinner meeting.
Instead of sending a newsletter every month we decided to email the minutes to everyone. They are basically the same so we felt it was redundant to do both.
Because of all our special guests we are making some changes to our meetings in April and May. We are switching the dinner meetings and the business meetings for April. Our April business meeting will be Tuesday, April 10th at the Falcon Grill at noon. The dinner meeting will be Tuesday, April 24th at Rachel’s. The Oratorical and Essay winners will attend this meeting. Our May dinner meeting will be Tuesday, May 8th, at Rachel’s. This will also be our Zone Meeting. The business meeting will be Tuesday, May 22nd, at Rachel’s. The winners of the poster contest will attend this meeting. Our calling committee will also remind you.
The meeting closed with the Optimist Creed.
